Progetto a favore della Lega Italiana Fibrosi Cistica (sez. Lazio)?

Project for the Lega Italian Fibrosi (Lazio branch)

The “Da vita a qualità di vita” (Give Life to Quality of Life) project, which was supported by the Fondazione Terzo Pilastro, led to the purchase of an apparatus that keeps lungs, donated from beating heart cadavers, alive outside of the body. These lungs can then be tested and examined for transplant in patients affected by, in this case, cystic fibrosis, when the disease reaches levels for which a transplant becomes indispensable. The apparatus, called Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP), reconditions lungs and makes usable those that would not be otherwise due to pathologies, such as edema, endobronchial secretions, or the presence of fluids. This allows for a greater number of transplants using organs that, as mentioned, would not have been transplantable.
