Master IULM di 1° livello in “Lingue e Culture Orientali”

IULM First-level Master in “Oriental Languages and Cultures”

This program originates from the need to provide a high level of cultural knowledge in social-professional contexts outside Europe, while it also aims at training professionals with the proper technical and linguistic skills required to work in the Arab-Islamic world and in China, as well as linguistic mediators capable of working as translators, interpreters, and linguistic experts in various areas (from trade to international diplomacy, from scientific research to import-export).

To this regard, the Fondazione Terzo Pilastro - Internazionale provides 20 scholarships (15 of fully cover the registration fee and 5 partially cover the registration fee), selecting candidates on the basis of their degrees and linguistic knowledge and after an interview carried out in the presence of a special Assessment Commission.

The Master training program is organized in lectures, assisted teaching labs, conferences, internships, and final exams. From a teaching aspect, the lessons and labs are divided into modules, respectively dedicated to the following subjects:

  1. English language lab (advanced)
  2. Arabic language lab (elementary or advanced)
  3. Chinese language lab (elementary or advanced)
  4. Written and oral linguistic mediation: English language (advanced)

This Master distinguishes itself from traditional academic programs in Oriental Languages and Civilizations because of the number of activities and related university credits specifically dedicated to linguistic and intercultural mediation between the Italian language and foreign languages.

Great importance is given to the work experience provided by the Master training program. So much so that Italian and international public and private institutions are contacted every year, with which the university concludes internship agreements (Venice Biennale, Istituto Affari Internazionali, Italian Institute of Culture in Edinburgh, Italy-China Foundation, Istituto per l’Oriente, etc.).
