A ‘Journey in Sicily’ by Francesco Amico

The exhibition titled ‘Viaggio in Sicilia (Journey in Sicily), promoted by Fondazione Cultura e Arte, an instrumentality of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale chaired by Professor Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, may be admired until the 30th of March 2019 at the Galleria Lombardi in Palermo.

The exhibition is intended as a tribute to the artist’s motherland. A series of paintings and sculptures (18 canvases and 4 sculptures) narrate his memories and past experiences in Sicily. Hence the exhibition is a kind of journal of his homeland and the typical radiance of the island always appears in the canvases.

Speaking of the artworks, Professor Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, Chairman of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale affirmed “The places and attractions of Amico’s childhood and youth, the atmosphere of the alleys, the landscapes, the ruins of Sicily and echoes of ancient myths and legends are faithfully and vividly depicted in his paintings and pastels and are all interpreted with steady brush strokes, essential forms and soft colours in a fascinating and very personal combination of classical and metaphysical influences (indeed there is an evident resemblance to De Chirico’s landscapes), that lend a timeless aura and a pensive, almost dreamy atmosphere to the canvases. A universal art, characterised by Francesco Amico’s typical sunny vision of the world, oozing with the pastel colours, luminous scenes and naïve undertones of his painting, which in its simplicity has a powerful emotional impact”.
