An elevator for Andrea. Andrea Mateucci, a disabled boy who lives in building F of the ATER complex located in Viale Torarancia, 63, finally has a lift and is able to move freely thanks to Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale.
The lift, built by Marrocco Elevators S.r.l. was inaugurated on Monday the 9th of September 2019 at Plot 2 of the Tor Marancia council estate in the in the presence of the chairman of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale, Professor Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele and the President of the Municipio Roma VIII, Amedeo Ciaccheri.
Professor Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele commented, “When, in 2015, I opened the Big City Life project in Tor Marancia, I met the local residents, including Andrea Mateucci and his family. On that occasion I learnt that this young man, who has regrettably lost the use of his legs, had to be literally carried into and out of his apartment on the first floor of Building G. Since I could not but take to heart the extremely difficult situation experienced by the boy and his parents I instantly promised the family that I would do everything I could to have a lift to transport disabled residents installed in the building.” The Professor added, “It was a matter of facing a long and strenuous bureaucratic process. It took two years to obtain the permit for ATER and the Municipality to install the lift and another year to complete the works. However, now I am delighted to have finally kept my promise. Since assisting the most vulnerable and underprivileged groups of society has always been amongst the main institutional purposes of the Foundation, which I have the honour to chair, it was only right to act for the sake of Mr Mateucci’s quality of the life and to allow him to fully participate in the life of the neighbourhood just like the other citizens, who in fact have become the guardians and main promoters of this beautiful open-air museum that Tor Marancia has turned into, due to the murals by twenty-two of the most important street artists.”
As a matter of fact, Tor Marancia houses amongst its plots the ‘Big City Life’ participatory art project, created in 2015 by Fondazione Roma in association with the Municipio Roma VIII and ATER; besides the lift for Andrea, the project has been enriched with an app for smartphones called ‘Tor Marancia 2.0’. The app allows visitors to enjoy the artworks in the condominial open-air museum through IOS and Android devices. The app is available in two languages (Italian and English) and was built by Megasound, thanks to the contribution of Fondazione Cultura e Arte, an instrumentality of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale.
The President of Municipio Roma VIII, Amedeo Ciaccheri, declared, “Shanghai, as the area of plots in the Tor Marancia estate, never ceases to amaze me. Beside the impressive artworks, important elements have been added to experience the beauty of these places, such as the lift for Andrea and the new app.”
