The Foundation refurbishes the ancient home of Ignazio Silone

The project to completely restore Ignazio Silone’s birthplace was presented during a meeting held in the council chamber of the Comune di Pescina on the 6th of May 2019 in the presence of the Mayor, Stefano Iulanella.

The meeting was attended by technicians, designers, a representative of the building company and Professor Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, Chairman of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale, whose fundamental contribution made the project possible, accompanied by the Director General, Professor Alessandra Taccone.

The emeritus President of the Regione Abruzzo, Sen. Luciano D’Alfonso and the emeritus regional councillor, Maurizio Di Nicola who, due to the allocation of funds under Masterplan will allow the development of the historical centre of Pescina, where the house of this illustrious author is located, also attended the meeting.

Professor Emmanuele F. M. Emanuele, Chairman of Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Internazionale that promotes and supports the renovation, remarked “ I really care about this project, which I believe is a moral duty to the city’s most eminent intellectual, Ignazio Silone who, together with Nicola Chiaramonte founded the journal Tempo Presente in 1956, of which I am currently the co-owner and President of the Board, in order to immortalise the memory of a man of such worth.  This is also an inevitable project for Pescina, which houses a Museum dedicated to him, and also proves my gratitude to the city and the Mayor Stefanto Iulianella, to whom I owe the privilege of being an honorary citizen.
