The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, together with the Académie des sciences (France) and the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology (Morocco) has established the ‘Inter-academic Group for Development (GID)’ of which nineteen of the most prestigious academies in the Mediterranean are currently members.
The GID is involved in a project, entitled “Parmenides” that aims to create a Mediterranean Science Area. As part of this project, the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, supported by the Foundation , organised an International Conference entitled “Science and Health in the Mediterranean Countries; genes, pathogens and the environment”.
The decision to convene illustrious experts from the field of medical sciences and representatives of the Governments of countries overlooking the Mediterranean Sea to a Round Table proved crucial, since knowledge of the needs of each country was acquired in order to find unanimous feasible solutions and thus encourage a scientific identity. The Conference was held from the 12th -14th October 2009 in the premises of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
