Calligraphic Art from the Arab World

riflessioni_1The exhibition, entitled Reflections from Heaven, Meditations on Earth, was opened on the 22nd March 2012 in Trajan’s Market in Rome with the support of the Foundation. The exhibition, which closed on the 10th June, presented seventy-five masterpieces belonging to the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in Amman. Curated by Khalid Khreis, under the aegis of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, the exhibition aimed to illustrate to the European public an artistic school that originated from the cultural and intellectual undercurrents in Arabia. The works by fifty seven artists from eighteen countries, ten of whom trained in Italy, revealed the uniqueness of style which is deeply rooted in the history of the Middle East, where calligraphy became an independent genre of art, adapted, in this case, to the present through the use of modern techniques and media.
