Georgia O’Keeffe

4th October 2011 – 20th January 2012

Following the highly successful exhibition of works by Edward Hopper, the Fondazione Roma paid homage to another twentieth century icon of American art: Georgia O’Keeffe.
For the first time in Italy, this great historical retrospective held in partnership with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum of Santa Fe, New Mexico, explored the complex universe of this artist who changed the history of modern art through her vision of the natural and architectural forms of the world.
Her masterpieces such as “New York Street with Moon”, from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid and “White calla with red background” belonging to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum were shown in a reconstruction of the historical and artistic context in which she worked.
A biographical section with photographs taken by Alfred Stieglitz documented the fascinating life of Georgia O’Keeffe together with her working tools and personal belongings which were lent exclusively for the exhibition.
